| 4.0 | Dina, ManagementStaff opinionDina The K3 runs the ET1 power head, the same motor driven head that does the digging on our best selling canisters, with the same aggressation and the same on and off control at the head. That head is the reason the commercial cleaning crews run K3 fleets at all: they are pulling real dirt out of real carpet dozens of hours a week, in buildings where the machine gets zero mercy. And that commercial life is where my knowledge of this machine comes from, because when those fleet machines come in, it is motors worked to death and ET1 circuit boards that gave up, not heads that stopped digging. A power head that keeps pulling dirt through years of commercial abuse is doing its deep cleaning job. In a home, with one family's carpet instead of an office building's, the same head has an easier life and the same results. ![]() Dina began her career in 2010 as manager of an Oreck store before taking over as CEO of Vacuums R Us in 2018. | 4.5 | Dina, ManagementStaff opinionDina I live with large animals, so pet hair is not a theory question for me. The K3 runs the same ET1 power head as our other SEBO canisters, and it does what it needs to do. The hair comes up out of the carpet and goes in the bag, and the brush roller pops out at the push of a button, so the hair that does wind the roller takes a minute to clear, not an afternoon. The best pet hair machine I know is the Riccar R30, and this sits below it but above just about everything else a pet owner is likely to be shopping. ![]() Dina began her career in 2010 as manager of an Oreck store before taking over as CEO of Vacuums R Us in 2018. | 5.0 | Dina, ManagementStaff opinionDina The K3 does very well on bare floor. Fine dust, sand, and powders come up, and so does the big debris, cat litter, rice, dog food kibble. Just remember to turn the roller off. Leave it spinning and it will bat the big pieces around, so I do my rugs first, then switch the roller off for the hard floors and nothing scatters across the kitchen. There is a parquet style bare floor tool in the box if you prefer a dedicated tool. My favorite trick on the ET1 head is that it cleans right up next to the baseboards, no dust stripe around the edge of the room and no second pass with a crevice tool. ![]() Dina began her career in 2010 as manager of an Oreck store before taking over as CEO of Vacuums R Us in 2018. | 5.0 | Josh, OperationsStaff opinionJosh Sebo consistently performs above all others on organic edge cleaning, due to a design that gives a narrow gap between the outer edge and the suction chamber on every one of their powered heads and floor attachments. ![]() Josh started in the vacuum industry in 2010 as a technician, working his way through sales and store management before becoming Operations Manager. While he's spent time on both the technical and sales sides of the business, his real fascination lies in the business side of the industry and how those decisions ripple down to the customer. He closely tracks the pattern of private equity quietly acquiring major brands, running them into bankruptcy, and selling off the name to foreign entities, and what that means for the people left holding the machines. | 3.0 | Dina, ManagementStaff opinionDina The K3 carries the standard SEBO hand tools, crevice, dusting brush, upholstery, and the tools themselves are fine. My issue is where they live. They are stored in three different places: the upholstery tool sits flush on top of the machine behind a button, the crevice tool slides into the back, and the dusting brush rides on the wand. It would have been better to have them all in one place, and I say that from watching people, especially the commercial cleaning crews who run these machines, simply not know what the machine carries. A lot of people do not know the upholstery tool exists at all, because it sits completely flush with the machine. The dusting brush falls off the wand, I have dropped my own wand and had it pop off, and if it falls off and you do not see it, it is gone and you are buying a new one. And the upholstery tool has one more quirk: on the K series it attaches through the crevice tool, so you are grabbing two tools and combining them for one job, which is a bit of a pain. Good tools, scattered and fumbly. Middle of the scale. ![]() Dina began her career in 2010 as manager of an Oreck store before taking over as CEO of Vacuums R Us in 2018. Much of it is valuable, and some manufacturers document their testing procedures thoroughly. Published numbers are also frequently measured at the most favorable point on the machine or under ideal conditions that a customer will not replicate. | 3.0 | Dina, ManagementStaff opinionDina The K3's advantage is that it is a little more compact than the bigger canisters, so there is less machine to steer around a room. Past that, I am not a fan of the maneuverability because the hose is not centered on the machine. It attaches off to one side, so as you pull the canister along it does not track a straight path behind you, it likes to drift like a kid doing donuts in a walmart parking lot. You end up correcting for it, and it follows sort of crooked. The hose itself is also the narrow one, not the anti clog hose from the e3 and d4, so it is smaller all the way down, which makes it more susceptible to clogs. To be fair it is not hard to use. It turns, it follows, the compact body helps in tight rooms, and plenty of owners never complain about the drift, they will just feel it. So middle of the road, leaning towards not great. ![]() Dina began her career in 2010 as manager of an Oreck store before taking over as CEO of Vacuums R Us in 2018. | 3.0 | Dina, ManagementStaff opinionDina The routine on the K3 is the usual SEBO list: change your bag, change your filters, clean your brush roller. The roller is the easy part and the best part, same as all the SEBO canisters, one button, the door pops off, and the roller pulls right out. Filters are two, one up top and one inside the back compartment, and once you have seen where they live, replacement is fairly easy. The bag is where this machine parts company with its E series and D series cousins. The compartment is on the back of the machine: you pop open a little door, slide the works out, and the bag sits down in the bottom of it. Once you are used to it, it is fairly easy. But asked the direct question, whether this is the hardest canister vacuum to change bags on, period, my answer was yes. It is not convenient, and it is the one piece of routine maintenance on this machine that a first time owner will fumble. So the K3 is in the middle: excellent roller access, ordinary filters, and the most awkward bag change in the canister world. ![]() Dina began her career in 2010 as manager of an Oreck store before taking over as CEO of Vacuums R Us in 2018. | 5.0 25 Years | Josh, OperationsStaff opinionJosh SEBOs are designed to stand extended periods of use and yes they even plan for abuse. The designs are mature. These are not machines reinvented every two years to chase a feature list. Durability and ease of maintenance sit in the design as a forethought, not an afterthought, and it shows in how they age. Here is my favorite piece of evidence, and it rolls through our Arvada location regularly. We see machines built by SEBO's parent stamped "made in WEST Germany, Motor made in Englewood Colorado." Sit with that stamp for a second. West Germany stopped being a country in 1990. These machines outlived the country printed on their label, and they are still on the job. That is what a quarter century design philosophy looks like on an actual bench, not in a brochure. Will a SEBO need repairs along the way? At some point, sure. Twenty five years is a long road. But the cost of those repairs runs reasonable and sane, and parts availability as the machine ages is better with SEBO than any other brand we know. That last part is what makes the 25 year number possible. A long lifespan is not only about what the machine can survive. It is about whether anybody will still sell you the part in year eighteen. With SEBO the answer is yes more often than any other brand we have worked with. ![]() Josh started in the vacuum industry in 2010 as a technician, working his way through sales and store management before becoming Operations Manager. | 5.0 | Manufacturer SpecManufacturer specManufacturer Spec Sebo backs its machines with a network of authorized service centers where you can walk in and have warranty repairs handled locally by people who know the machines, which is something most vacuum brands simply don't offer. That network is smaller than a handful of other premium brands, but Sebo closes the gap with prepaid shipping: if there's no service center near you, customer support issues an RMA and a prepaid UPS return label, and you drop the box at any UPS location at no cost. Warranty repairs are free and Sebo pays the freight both ways, so a claim costs you nothing no matter where you live. | 4.0 | Josh, OperationsStaff opinionJosh I have a hard time calling Sebo an easy repair. They are machines that do a lot, and that means they are not particularly simple machines either. The assembly is clearly designed to be maintained and repaired once you know how everything goes together, but this is not the sort of vacuum where you can just pick up with a screwdriver and start exploring with no knowledge of the model. On the flip side, for work that borders on maintenance, things like clearing clogs and swapping brush rollers, they are among the easiest machines we handle. Everything snaps apart, so brush roller and filter replacement is easy, and clogs come out without a fight. Where repairs get genuinely challenging is core component work like motor and circuit board replacement. Excellent for the common jobs, demanding for the big ones that might be better in a service center any way. ![]() Josh started in the vacuum industry in 2010 as a technician, working his way through sales and store management before becoming Operations Manager. | 5.0 | Josh, OperationsStaff opinionJosh This brand is one of the best examples of ready parts availability in this industry, and the reasons stack up structurally no accidentally. Long production runs of a given model mean the parts pipeline for that model stays alive for years instead of turning over every season, and even a number of years after a model is retired, parts continue to be available. Currently almost every unit they currently sell in the US is available with a ten year warranty, and a company that puts ten years on the box has little choice but to keep components flowing for years. Their machines are sold worldwide in high volume and the components come out of Germany. Through the supply chain mess of the last decade they were barely touched, while we watched other brands go months or years missing critical parts. I think a lot of this culture comes from their European base, where consumer protection laws requiring repair components tend to be more robust. Whatever the root cause, the result at our counter is simple. When a SEBO needs a part, we get the part. In a market where components quietly disappear while machines sit dead waiting, that kind of boring reliability deserves to be called out loudly. ![]() Josh started in the vacuum industry in 2010 as a technician, working his way through sales and store management before becoming Operations Manager. | 5.0 | Josh, OperationsStaff opinionJosh SEBO prints their schematics right in the user manual. Understand how far outside the norm that is. Normally the best a vacuum owner can hope for is that a site like ours has gotten hold of a model's schematics and posted them online. The manufacturer itself showing you how the machine goes together is unheard of. SEBO hands it to you in print, in the box, with the machine. That one choice tells you everything about the intent behind these machines. They are built to last a long time and to be repairable. And because that intent is understood across the trade, the independent side has piled on. Dozens of independent service centers like ours have produced hundreds of repair tutorials for every model, covering numerous repair types. So a SEBO owner has the factory's own diagrams sitting in the manual drawer and a deep library of tutorials from the shops that fix these machines every week. In an industry where most manufacturers publish nothing and quietly hope you throw the machine away, SEBO documents theirs like they expect it to end up on somebody's bench someday, and they plan for that day. ![]() Josh started in the vacuum industry in 2010 as a technician, working his way through sales and store management before becoming Operations Manager. Manufacturers often sell the same machine under different model numbers. Sometimes this is simply because the same unit comes in different colors. Other times different models are created to sell to different retailers, making prices hard to compare. These models (Sebo 90687AM, Sebo 90688AM, Sebo 90693AM, Sebo 91697AM, Sebo 91698AM, Sebo 91699AM) are all internally the same machine. We rate it once, and the review covers every one of them.
