Sanitaire/Eureka Vacuum – Brush Not Spinning

First, let's check whether the belt driving your brush roller is broken or stretched out. A stretched belt is the most common cause of a non-spinning brush.

1. Place the vacuum on a bench at waist height with the bottom facing up, or flip it over on the floor.
2. Locate and unhook the two clips on either side of the base plate.
3. Remove the base plate to expose the belt and brush roller.
4. Look at the belt connecting the motor shaft to the brush roller.

The belt needs replacement. Round belts on these commercial vacuums wear out frequently due to the air chamber running directly over them.

1. Remove the old belt by lifting it off the motor shaft.
2. Pull the brush roller out of its slots.
3. Place the new round belt onto the brush roller first.
4. Twist the belt and loop it onto the motor shaft, ensuring it sits in the groove on the motor shaft if present.

5. Push your body against the machine for leverage.
6. Push the brush roller away from you to stretch the belt while guiding the roller ends into their slots.
7. The roller will pop into place when properly seated.
8. Verify the belt aligns with any groove marks on the roller – if misaligned, the belt sits at an angle and will break.

9. Roll the brush roller backward by hand several times to ensure the belt seats properly.
10. Snap the base plate back on, ensuring both clips engage.
11. Plug in the vacuum and test briefly to confirm the brush spins.

The belt appears okay, so let's check if the brush roller itself can spin freely.

1. With the base plate already removed, try spinning the brush roller by hand.
2. Check if hair, string, or debris is wrapped around the roller or lodged in the bearings at either end.
