Disassemble the Vacuum Head

We’ll remove the vacuum head cover to access the brush roller mechanism and diagnose the problem.

Remove the top cover by releasing four small clips.
Using a T10 Torx security bit, remove the two screws on the top of the head.
Flip the head over to access the bottom.

Remove the top cover by releasing four small clips.

Using a T20 Torx security bit, remove the nine screws on the bottom of the head (if a screw is stuck, use a small flat screwdriver to help).
Pop off any covers and check for additional hidden screws underneath.
Remove any additional screws found (locations vary by model).
Slide off the bottom cover and set it aside.

Diagnose the Problem

Inspect the brush roller mechanism. Is the main belt intact and is the large roller spinning freely when you turn it by hand?

Replace the Small Drive Belt

The main components are working, so the issue is likely the small drive belt for the soft roller. We'll replace it and test.

Remove the two screws holding the soft roller in place.

Remove the two screws holding the soft roller in place.
Pull out the soft roller assembly.
Remove the end caps from the soft roller to expose the small belt.
Check if the small belt is broken or stretched.
Install the new small belt over both pulleys.
Reassemble the soft roller with its end caps.
Reinstall the soft roller into the head and secure with the two screws.

Replace the bottom cover, ensuring proper alignment.

Reinstall all nine bottom screws using the T20 bit (don't overtighten to avoid stripping).
Replace any covers that were removed.
Flip the head over and reinstall the two top screws using the T10 bit.
Snap the top cover back into place.
Reinstall the wheels by clipping them back into position.
Plug in the vacuum and test both rollers.

Issue Resolved

Great! The belt replacement fixed the problem. Your vacuum's front brush should now be working normally.
