Troubleshoot No Suction on Dyson DC14/DC07/DC33

First, we need to determine if you have no suction at the wand/hose, at the base, or both. This will help narrow down where the problem is.

1. Turn on your vacuum.
2. Put your hand over the end of the wand/hose and feel for suction.
3. Switch to using the vacuum head on the floor and check if it picks up debris.

The wand is the most common place for clogs. We'll check the wand first, then the hose.

1. Press the release button to detach the hose from the wand.
2. Look down through the wand to check for blockages.
3. If you see a clog, use a metal rod to push it out from either end.
4. Check for heavy debris like marbles or pebbles stuck in the hose's elbow joint.

5. Locate the clip holding the hose to the machine.
6. Release the clip and remove the hose.
7. Look through the hose for any blockages.
8. If debris falls out from the elbow area when removed, clear it all out.
9. Reattach the hose and wand, then test for suction.

Low suction at the base is usually caused by a bad clutch rather than a clog, but we'll check the narrow openings where clogs can occur.

1. Look into the narrow opening at the base where debris enters.
2. Check if you can see any visible blockage in this opening.

3. Flip the machine over with the canister removed.
4. Locate and remove the hose connection at the base.
5. Check inside this hose for any blockages and clear if needed.
6. Reattach the hose and test the machine.

When both the wand and base have no suction, the problem is likely a clogged filter or blockage in the canister area.

1. Remove the canister from the machine.
2. Look in the upper corner where air enters the canister for any paper or debris blocking the opening.
3. Clear any blockages found in this area.

4. Open the top of the canister and pull out the cylindrical filter.
5. Hold the filter up to a light – if no light passes through, it's clogged.
6. If clogged and you've never cleaned it before, replace with a new filter.
7. If only moderately dirty, wash under cold water until water runs clear, then air dry for 24 hours.

8. Locate the HEPA filter compartment on the side of the machine.
9. Carefully release the three clips holding the cover (they're brittle).
10. Remove the HEPA filter and inspect – if it's dark gray or black, replace it.
11. Reinstall all filters and the canister, then test the machine.
