Fix No Suction on Oreck XL Vacuum

First, verify if you have a clog by testing the bag inflation.

1. Press down on the bag to deflate it completely.
2. Turn on the vacuum while holding the bag deflated.
3. Watch to see if the bag inflates quickly.

You have a clog. Let's check if it's at the top of the machine first.

1. Remove the bag from the vacuum.
2. Look into the bag connection area for visible debris.
3. Check if you can see a clog at the top of the tube.

Clear the clog from the top, then test if suction is restored.

1. Use tweezers to pick out visible debris from the bag connection area.
2. Take the vacuum outside and point the bag opening away from people.
3. Turn on the vacuum briefly without the bag to blow out remaining debris (it may shoot 15-20 feet).
4. Turn off and pick out any additional debris that moves up.
5. Repeat turning on and picking out debris until clear.

6. Reattach the bag.
7. Test the vacuum on a small area.

The clog is likely at the base of the vacuum. We'll remove the bottom plate to access it.

1. Turn the vacuum over to access the bottom.
2. Remove the five screws holding the base plate (not the three screws holding the squeegee).
3. Lift off the base plate.
4. Remove the brush roll to see into the intake area.
5. Look for debris blocking the short intake passage.

The clog is stuck in the tube. We'll disassemble the tube to clear it.

1. Twist the ring at the bottom of the tube to loosen it.
2. Lift the ring and gasket up.
3. Unhook the spring connector at the base.
4. Unscrew the tube at the top connection.
5. Remove the tube completely.
6. Look through the tube and push out any debris.
7. Reassemble the tube in reverse order.

8. Reattach the bag.
9. Test the vacuum on a small area.

Remove the motor assembly to access and clear the base clog.

1. Locate the three screws holding the motor and intake assembly (use T20 Torx bit for newer models, Phillips for older).
2. Remove all three screws.
3. Lift the motor assembly up and out.
4. Clear any debris from the intake passage and fan area.
5. Reassemble by reversing these steps.
6. Replace the base plate with five screws.

7. Reattach the bag.
8. Test the vacuum on a small area.
