Troubleshoot No Suction on Bissell BG10 Carpet Cleaner

First, verify the motor is creating suction. The machine must be spraying water for pickup to work – if it's not spraying at all, that's a different issue.

1. Plug in the machine and remove the dirty water tank.
2. Turn on the machine.
3. Feel for strong suction coming from the red grill opening where the tank connects.

The motor works, so now we’ll check if the tank is sealing properly.

1. Locate the inlet on the bottom of the dirty water tank where water enters.
2. Place duct tape completely over this inlet to seal it.
3. Reinstall the tank on the machine.

4. Turn on the machine.
5. Open the lid on the top of the tank where the hose would plug in and test to see if you can feel suction.

Tank seals are good. Now check if the nozzle passage is clear.

1. Remove the duct tape from the tank inlet.
2. Lift the front of the machine.
3. Look down through the nozzle opening and check if you can see daylight all the way through the passage.

The internal hose connecting the nozzle to the tank is damaged or disconnected. This requires disassembly to replace.

1. Remove the water tank and unplug the machine.
2. Remove six shorter screws from the bottom plate using a Phillips screwdriver.
3. Tilt the plate forward to access the clear internal hose.

4. Remove four small plastic screws holding the hose assembly.
5. Pull out the damaged hose assembly.
6. Transfer the rubber gasket from the old hose to the new replacement hose.
7. Install the new hose assembly, ensuring it seats properly.

8. Replace the four plastic screws to secure the hose assembly.
9. Reattach the bottom plate with the six machine screws.
10. Reinstall the water tank and test the machine on a small area.

Pet hair and debris are blocking the nozzle passage. You'll need to clear this before the machine can pick up water.

1. Take the machine outside or to a sink.
2. Insert a garden hose into the nozzle opening from below.
3. Run water through in reverse direction to flush out the clog.
4. If needed, use a plastic drain snake tool to break up the blockage – never use metal coat hangers as they damage internal hoses.
5. Once clear, verify you can see daylight through the passage.
