Troubleshoot Baby Lock Sashiko Machine Not Sewing

Is the bobbin winder spindle pushed to the winding position? When engaged for bobbin winding, the machine won't sew.

Is the needle stuck down in the fabric and the machine won't move when you press the foot pedal?

We'll clear the jam by backing out the needle and resetting the machine.

1. Carefully rock the flywheel backwards until you can lift the needle up from the fabric.
2. Lift the presser foot.
3. Pull the fabric away from the machine. If stuck, use thread snips to cut threads underneath until fabric releases.

4. Turn the machine off, count to 10, then turn it back on.
5. Press the needle up/down button to reset needle position.
6. When the light comes on, open the bobbin door.
7. Remove the bobbin and check for trapped thread or lint in the mechanism.
8. Clean out any debris, replace the bobbin, and test on scrap fabric.

When you try to sew, are you getting loops on the back of the fabric instead of proper stitches?

The loops indicate loose bobbin tension. We'll adjust the tension screw on the bobbin case.

1. Remove the bobbin case from the machine.
2. Locate the small tension screw on the bobbin case.
3. Turn the screw clockwise by just a quarter turn using a flat screwdriver.
4. Replace the bobbin case, rethread the machine completely.
5. Test on scrap fabric. If loops persist, repeat with another quarter turn.

The needle or latch wire may be damaged. We'll inspect and replace if needed.

1. Press the needle up/down button to lower the needle.
2. Open the bobbin door when the light comes on.
3. Check if the latch wire in the foot is properly seated in its slot. If out, pull it down and tuck it back into the slot.

4. Turn the flywheel to access the needle area.
5. Loosen the latch wire screw with a flat screwdriver.
6. Remove the latch wire and inspect for a broken tip or damage.
7. If damaged, replace with a new latch wire. If okay, reinstall it.

8. Loosen the needle screw while holding the needle.
9. Slide the needle down and out.
10. Check if the needle point is intact or broken off.
11. If damaged, replace with a new needle. Insert with groove facing you, flat side to the back.
12. Push needle up as far as it will go and tighten the screw firmly.
13. Test on scrap fabric.
