I have really bad asthma and allergies, hospitalized multiple times as a kid, and when I switched to the R30 with its bagged, sealed filtration, the change in my health was profound. This machine pulled up debris from the previous tenant of my apartment, dirt I did not know I was living on top of. The R30 is why that arrangement works. It pulls the woven in hair out of the carpet, not just the surface fluff, and everything ends up sealed in the bag instead of decorating the roller. And the design plans for pet reality. Suck up a huge clump of hair or catch the corner of a rug, and the machine auto shuts off to save the motor. You clear the roller, turn it back on, and you are back in action, no burned belt, no cooked motor, no repair visit. That shutoff sounds like a small feature until you live with a shedder and realize the machine forgives exactly the accidents a pet house produces.       Dallas On hard surfaces the R30 does superb work. Hit the button, the roller stops, and you run straight suction over hardwood and linoleum. I have not had to use a broom in almost a year, and I do not miss it. The honest caveat is the hood. It is a little blocky, so along baseboards and underneath my cabinets I will often switch to an attachment to finish the edges rather than nosing the hood into them. That is a small workflow tax, not a performance failure, and the tools on this machine are excellent, so the edge work goes quickly. Now the question I answer honestly on the sales floor even though it costs me: if your home is almost all hard floor, or all hard floor with some runners, this is not the machine I would sell you. The Tandem Air is overkill for that house. Something like the R17 does beautifully there, with a slow speed suited to hardwood and a squeegee built into the base so debris does not kick back. Buy the R30 for a home with carpet in the fight. Its bare floor work is strong enough that the hard floor rooms come along easily.

Like any upright it depends on which side of the head you run along the wall. The non belt side is much better than average, and on that side it beats almost every upright I have tested it against except SEBO. The belt side runs above average too, just not as strong. The belt on these is a narrow grooved design, so the belt cover is smaller than on most units, and even the weak side edges better than other machines' good side.

      Dallas I rated this toolset six out of five in my interview and got corrected to the top of the scale, which tells you where I stand. The wand has a really cool pump action that extends far enough to reach my corners and cobwebs. On the end of it rides a horsehair bristle brush, soft and kind on countertops, bookshelves, and electronics, and a second brush whose bristles clip off to turn it into an upholstery tool, which works extremely well on my leather furniture. The crevice tool is eight inches, and it has a detail I love showing people: a cutout at the tip so it never seals itself against what you are cleaning, which keeps the airflow moving and protects the motor from strangling. Even the hose is a statement, the longest standard hose in the Riccar line at around twelve feet, stretching halfway across my store. What makes this a five instead of just a nice list is that every piece earns use. Nothing in this kit lives in a closet. I own this machine, I use these tools weekly in my own apartment, and the above floor cleaning, shelves, vents, upholstery, baseboards, is as covered as the carpet is.

You feel the substance when you pick it up, and if maneuverability were only about weight, that would be the story. It is not, because the engineering around the weight is genuinely clever. Hit the lever and it lays flat for under the furniture. The two wheels spin independently, so you get very, very tight turns out of a machine that has no business turning that tight. I run mine four times a week in a small apartment, which is the hardest maneuverability test there is, all corners and no runway, and it handles it without drama. So the practical picture: this is not a featherweight and it never pretends to be, and if lifting weight up staircases is your daily reality, the Supralite family exists for you. But in normal use, pushing, turning, reaching under beds, working around furniture legs, the R30 moves like a much smaller machine.
