🔧 Shark Vacuum Roller Not Spinning – Repair Guide

⚠️ Disclaimer: This guide is for informational purposes only. Repairs should be done by a factory-authorized technician. Attempt at your own risk. Some vacuum repair shops will not service units that have already been taken apart.

🧰 Tools Required

  • T10 Torx screwdriver

  • T20 Torx screwdriver

  • Small flathead screwdriver (optional, for stubborn screws)

Before You Start

Make sure:

  • You understand the full procedure before starting.

  • You are comfortable performing this repair yourself.

  • The vacuum is unplugged.

STEP 1: Remove the Top Cover

  1. Remove the cosmetic top cap by unclipping the 4 plastic clips.

  2. Set the cover aside.

STEP 2: Remove the Top Screws

  1. Use a T10 Torx driver to remove 2 screws from the top of the vacuum head.

  2. These hold the top plate in place, but it won’t come off until the bottom screws are also removed.

STEP 3: Remove the Bottom Screws

  1. Flip the vacuum head over.

  2. Switch to a T20 Torx driver.

  3. Remove 9 screws from the bottom. (Note: Some screws may resist removal.)

    • If a screw won’t come out, gently pry it using a small flathead screwdriver.

STEP 4: Check for Hidden Screws

  1. Carefully pry off the lower front panel using the flathead.

  2. Look for 2 hidden screws underneath – remove them.

  3. Also remove the screw near the top corner of the head.

STEP 5: Remove the Housing

  1. Carefully lift and remove the top housing of the vacuum head.

  2. Set it aside.

STEP 6: Diagnose the Issue

Inside the vacuum head, check the following:

  • Is the main drive belt snapped?

  • Is the secondary small belt (side belt) broken or stripped?

  • Is the micro switch faulty? (If there are no lights or sound, it may be a micro switch issue. This guide does not cover replacement but other videos on the channel do.)

STEP 7: Replace the Broken Belt

  1. If the small side belt is broken (common), remove the belt housing.

  2. Unscrew and remove the soft roller.

  3. Let rollers dry for at least 48 hours if previously washed.

  4. Remove the small belt assembly – it may require some force.

  5. Install the new belt (linked in video description).

    • Loop it over both pulley points as shown.

STEP 8: Reassemble the Vacuum Head

  1. Place the belt cover and roller back in.

  2. Reattach the top housing.

  3. Use the T10 driver to reinstall the 2 small top screws.

  4. Flip the unit and reinstall all 9 bottom screws with T20 driver.

    • Do not overtighten – this may strip the plastic screw holes.

STEP 9: Reinstall Wheels and Roller

  1. Snap both wheels back into place – press firmly or give a gentle tap.

  2. Reinsert the soft roller and click it into place.

  3. Replace the small top panel removed in Step 1.

STEP 10: Test the Repair

  1. Reconnect the vacuum head to the main unit.

  2. Power it on and tilt back to activate the head.

  3. Confirm both rollers are spinning.
