Rug Doctor No Spray Troubleshooting

First we’ll check if the metal filter screen inside the clean water tank is clogged or loose, which commonly prevents spray.

1. Remove the dirty water tank from the machine.
2. Remove the white mesh basket held in by two Philips head screws.
3. Look down inside the clean water reservoir – you should see a metal screen covering the water intake tube.
4. Check if the screen is clogged with hair or debris. If clogged, clean it with tweezers or rinse it.
5. Check if the screen is loose or has popped out. If loose, press it firmly back into place over the tube opening.

Now test if cleaning or securing the filter screen resolved the spray issue.

1. Reinstall the clean water tank with fresh water and cleaning solution.
2. Turn on the machine and press the spray trigger.
3. Check if water sprays from the cleaning head.

The pump has likely failed and needs replacement. We'll remove the bottom covers to access it, then disconnect the old pump.

1. Turn off and unplug the machine.
2. Flip the machine upside down.
3. Remove all screws from both plastic bottom covers (note which screw doesn't have a washer for reassembly).
4. Remove both plastic bottom covers to expose the pump area.

5. Locate the pump – it has two water hoses and electrical wires connected.
6. Use a flat screwdriver to pry up and remove the hose clamps, or cut the hoses if clamps won't budge.
7. Pull both hoses off the pump (they may be tight – wiggle while pulling).

8. Cut the zip tie holding the electrical wire bundle.
9. Unplug both electrical connectors from the pump (note they are color-coded).
10. Pull the old pump out of its rubber mounting bracket.

Now we'll install the replacement pump and reconnect everything. The electrical connections can go either direction.

1. Insert the new pump into the rubber mounting bracket.
2. Connect both electrical plugs to the new pump (polarity doesn't matter – either wire to either terminal).
3. Bundle the wires together with a new zip tie to keep them tidy.

4. Push both water hoses firmly onto the new pump's connections.
5. Position new hose clamps over each connection.
6. Tighten both hose clamps with a screwdriver until secure.

7. Reinstall both plastic bottom covers with all screws (remember the one without a washer goes in its special location).
8. Flip the machine right-side up.
9. Fill the clean water tank, plug in the machine, and test the spray function.
