What you are getting
This is a Grace Q’nique 15M midarm quilting machine set up on the Cutie tabletop fabric frame. It is sold as used, but it was never run. No thread has gone through it. The drive belt, the hook area, and the tension assembly are all fresh, with none of the lint packing or belt glazing we see on machines that have quilted for a few seasons. It carries our 90 day warranty and we service it here in the shop.
The machine
The 15M is the manual model in the Grace 15 line. You set a constant speed and move the machine over the fabric to quilt, the way you would draw with a pencil. There is no stitch regulation. Your stitch length comes from how steadily you move your hands against the speed you set. That takes a little practice, and once you have it, the 15M does the same free motion work the pricier machines do.
- 15 inch throat from the needle to the back of the work area, so larger blocks and patterns fit without the fabric bunching the way it does on a small domestic machine.
- 1,800 stitches per minute at a constant speed you dial in.
- LCD readout that shows your stitching speed.
- Large M class bobbin so you quilt longer between changes, with easy access when you do change it.
- Built in bobbin winder that runs on its own separate motor, so you can wind a bobbin without running the machine.
- Daylight balanced LED work lights with adjustable brightness.
- Quick access buttons on the handles for the functions you reach for mid quilt.
Why the manual model is the smart buy
Here is the part we tell customers at the counter. Stitch regulation and touchscreens are the parts that bring the 15R and 15 Pro back to a service bench. Encoders, sensor boards, and screens are what fail on electronic quilting machines. The 15M has none of that. Fewer boards, no regulation sensor, a plain LCD. There is less on it to break, which is what you want on a machine you plan to keep for years. You give up push button even stitches in exchange for a machine that is simpler to own and cheaper to fix if anything ever does go wrong.
Who it is for
Buy the 15M if you want to learn free motion quilting on a frame and you would rather not pay for regulation you will not lean on while you are learning. It rewards practice and gives you real control once your hands find the rhythm. If you want even stitches with no learning curve straight out of the box, look at the regulated 15R or 15 Pro instead. We will tell you the same thing on the phone.
The Cutie tabletop frame
The Cutie is Grace’s compact frame. It sits on a table instead of taking over a room, which makes it the right frame for lap quilts, table runners, baby quilts, and blocks. If you have wanted to quilt on a frame but did not have space for an eight foot setup, this is how you get there. When you outgrow it, the 15M moves onto a larger Grace frame without buying another machine.
