Tornado was founded in 1927 by Adam Breuer Sr. as the Breuer Electric Manufacturing Company in Chicago, originally building electric blowers for cleaning electrical equipment. The brand quickly expanded into industrial vacuum cleaners, hot-air blowers, and dust collectors, and supplied equipment to bomber and shipyard maintenance during World War II.
The company became Tornado Industries in 2000 and was acquired by Tacony Corporation in 2007, joining Tacony's Commercial Floor Care division. Tornado's lineup includes commercial uprights, canisters, backpack vacuums, wet/dry shop vacs, sweepers, scrubbers, and burnishers — built in the United States in St. James, Missouri and Fort Worth, Texas. Replacement bags, brushes, filters, belts, and motors for the Tornado catalog are stocked through commercial cleaning suppliers across North America.
