Sanitaire began in the 1950s as the heavy-duty commercial line of The Eureka Company, distinguished by its rugged blue uprights aimed at hotels, schools, and cleaning contractors. The signature red Sanitaire commercial line followed in 1972, and for decades the unmistakable bagged Sanitaire upright was a fixture of janitorial closets across North America.
The brand passed from Eureka to Electrolux in the 2000s and was sold to Bissell in August 2018, where it continues to operate as Sanitaire Commercial. The lineup includes the legendary SC600 series uprights, lightweight commercial vacs, backpack and canister models, and wide-area cleaners — built to ASTM and CRI standards for professional environments. Sanitaire's commercial focus means parts longevity matters: bags, belts, brush rolls, and motors for older Sanitaire reds remain stocked across the industry.
