Dyson was founded in 1991 by British engineer James Dyson, who spent five years and built more than 5,000 prototypes before perfecting the bagless cyclonic upright that became the DC01. The launch of the DC01 in 1993 broke up a market dominated by bagged uprights and built one of the most recognizable engineering brands in consumer products.

Dyson now produces a broad range of cordless stick vacuums (the V-series), corded uprights and canisters, robotic vacuums, hair care, fans, and air purifiers, sold in more than 80 countries. Its model lineage — DC, Ball, Cinetic, V, and Gen5detect — is supported by a deep aftermarket of replacement batteries, motorized brush bars, post-motor and pre-motor filters, cyclone assemblies, and accessory tools that keep older Dyson machines in service for years past their original warranty.
