Riccar was founded in Tokyo in 1939 as Nippon Shokusan Kogyo, becoming the Riccar Sewing Machine Company in 1949 and eventually Riccar Co. Ltd. in 1973. Tacony Corporation acquired Riccar America in 1988 and, after years of sourcing the vacuums in Taiwan, opened its own plant in St. James, Missouri in 1997 — bringing Riccar production back to the United States, a rare reversal in the industry.
Today Riccar uprights, canisters, and tandem-air systems are built in Missouri and sold exclusively through independent vacuum dealers, alongside sister Tacony brand Simplicity. The Brilliance, SupraLite, and Tandem Air model families share parts with their Simplicity counterparts, and the dealer-service network keeps a deep inventory of Riccar bags, belts, brush rolls, hoses, and motors readily available.
