Janome is one of the world's largest sewing machine manufacturers, founded in Tokyo in 1921 as the Pine Sewing Machine Factory. The name "Janome" — Japanese for "snake's eye" — was adopted in 1935 to describe the round bobbin case of the company's signature machines, and Janome introduced the world's first computerized home sewing machine, the Memory 7, in 1979.

Today Janome produces a full range of mechanical sewing machines, computerized sewing-and-embroidery combos, sergers, and quilting machines, sold worldwide alongside its sister brands Elna and Elnita. Janome models — from the Memory Craft and Skyline series to the New Home–branded machines and economy Magnolia line — share decades of bobbin cases, presser feet, needle plates, and replacement parts that keep older units running.
