Hoover is one of the most recognized names in floor care, founded in 1908 in North Canton, Ohio when leather-goods maker W.H. "Boss" Hoover bought the rights to an early electric suction sweeper invented by janitor James Murray Spangler. The Model O upright that followed put vacuum cleaners into ordinary American homes, and "to hoover" eventually became a verb in many English-speaking countries.

The Hoover brand today spans a broad line of bagged and bagless uprights, canisters, stick vacs, carpet washers, and commercial floor care machines. With more than a century of model history behind it, Hoover is one of the most heavily serviced vacuum brands in the repair industry — replacement belts, filters, brush rolls, and bags for vintage and current Hoover models remain widely available.
