Eureka was founded in 1909 in Detroit by Fred Wardell, who took the name from his own reaction the first time he saw a working motorized vacuum cleaner. The original Eureka Vacuum Cleaner Company built upright suction cleaners that competed directly with the early Hoover machines and helped make household vacuuming mainstream in the United States.
Eureka spent decades as part of Electrolux Home Care Products, the same parent that owned Sanitaire, before being divested to Midea Group in 2016. The brand today produces a wide range of upright, canister, stick, handheld, and robotic vacuums sold through major retailers, with model numbers spanning more than a century — a long tail that keeps demand for replacement bags, belts, filters, and brush rolls steady year after year.
